Try if you liked the "apocalypse is happening but the humans don't know why" aspects of Karen Marie Moning's Fae Fever series, the smart ass comraderie of C.
Augustine's writing style is so easy to follow and so entertaining that stopping can be difficult. I enjoyed this book very much. I liked the characters and story. The keepers and alchemist stuff is a bit strange and I am not sure if I am loving it. But I will see where it goes. As usual this author 's book ends on a set up for the next book, so if you want to find out what happens next you will have to read the whole series. Will get the next book now. I enjoyed the premise of this book. Alchemy is an interesting and not overdone story theme.
I liked the main character. For all her flaws and naivety, she is complex and does grow as the story progresses. The main characters are well drawn and I became engaged with them quite quickly.
Book Review: Shattered (Alchemy #3) | I Smell Sheep
Will be interested to see where the author takes this series. Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Some of it is too quick but its still captivating. I would recommend it. And I will be moving on to book 3. Still loving The Alchemy Series! You are definitely going to want to read this series in order, and you are definitely going to want to read this series if you are into urban-fantasy.

As with the first book in the series I had a hard time walking away from the story once I had begun reading. I would promise myself just one more page, but the pages just kept turning. Jo is turning out to be one of the strongest Alchemists ever known. She is still being more or less controlled by Cormac; more than she wants to be and less than Cormac is happy about. Of course if the hottest guy you had ever seen had ordered your death I suppose it would cause a girl to have second thoughts as to whether she wanted to get tangled up with the man.
To my way of thinking though, Cormac redeems himself time and time again throughout this story with his obvious concern for Jo and the way he is always protecting her.
Unfortunately both Jo and Cormac have a lot larger issues than trying to figure out the sensual pull between them. Like trying to figure out who and, more importantly what, Senator Core is. When Jo and Cormac finally figure out the why of what Core is doing it may be too late for civilization. She has the same great timing when it comes to sprinkling in the humor and the sarcastic one-liners are priceless. Both main and sub-characters are well written.
Dialogue is killer and has an easy flow between characters. This series reminds me a lot of Rachel Caines "Weather Wardens". There are huge differences but the feel of the plot driving the story seems the same. I especially love the ending, though not everybody will.
Shattered: Alchemy, Book 3 (Unabridged)
I would love them to leave the cliff hanger unsolved. It creates a unique twist to Miss Augustine's world. With that said, the. Characters did frustrate me a bit, especially in the first half. I felt little character development take place. I also felt like the characters weren't understanding and adapting to the characters around them. While Jo never seemed to grow up at all, Cormac should have at least learned to keep her in the loop if he wanted to keep her tantrums at bay, and stop trusting her to be a team player, when she clearly has serious trust issues.
Hopefully some character development happens in the next book. Looking forward to it! I liked the first book, it kept me interested the whole way through, however I was disappointed with this addition. I can't really put a finger on what bothered me so much about the book, It could be that I don't care for genre shifts mid way through a series.
It went from paranormal fiction or some such to a post apocalyptic sort of thing. I don't mind either genre but I seem to get annoyed when it switches mid stream. For whatever reason it felt like the story fell flat midway through this volume.
