A couple of the ladies bring their grandchildren with them on a night when there's no other babysitter, so we delight in a few young people in our group. For Halloween I bought a few of these books for these year-olds. I am happy to report that each of them love their new books and asks the grandmothers to read the books to them over and over again.

Our group enjoys Liz Curtis-Higgs book studies very much and we have read and discussed at least seven or eight of her books at this point and look forward to many more coming from Liz. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. We have read this book to all four of our children over the last 10 years as we carve a pumpkin each year. It gives an excellent alternative to the darkness and ugliness of Halloween, with scriptures at the bottom of each page to support the beautiful story. This book can change the culture of Halloween for all believers, and bring the light of Christ to those who don't yet believe - both children and adults!

Her Christian Historical Fiction novels were my introduction to the genre which for me today is a passion. I was delighted to discover she has also written a handful of children's novels in parable form with the gospel as the central message. I have an original copy of The Pumpkin Patch Parable from a few years ago, but when I heard that it was being republished as a giant board book, I was ecstatic!

The Pumpkin Patch Parable

The story with scripture verses captivated them. I asked them to pretend they were pumpkin seeds that were growing. As the plant leafed out in the story, I asked them to extend their arms. One four year old told his mother that above all the games and food, he loved the story the best. Oh, I dressed in bided overalls, plaid shirt and straw hat. It was special to be to have my costume look like the farmer in the story! The story talks about how a farmer makes a tiny pumpkin into a glorious pumpkin filled with love and joy just like God can for us.

This book is amazing for all ages I believe and gives a great lesson across to the children. Oct 17, Luisa Knight rated it really liked it Shelves: This is a wonderful autumn message! At Christmas time, I love hearing the story of the candy cane and what the Christian symbolism reminds us of. And this story, in an attempt to reclaim the pumpkin from Halloween, reminds us of what God can do with His children.

Make sure you look for this one - you and your children will enjoy it!

I hope my other review didn't go threw, my laptop is touchy so I'm gonna try to rewrite it. This was a cute story, however the note the author wrote so you know what sorta story this is and its not a mindless goulish halloween story hit me sour.

I know where she was coming from and what she was trying to accomplish but it did not pan over well with me. There are plenty of cute little wholesome halloween stories about fun lil monsters and ghosts that do have a good meaning behind them. Her approa I hope my other review didn't go threw, my laptop is touchy so I'm gonna try to rewrite it. Her approach will not have me coming back to this author.

I'm glad we read this book at the library and did not purchase it. My two young boys and I were disappointed with this book. It started out promising that it was not a Halloween book and I thought the farmer might've made a scarecrow or a pie or a soup with his pumpkin but instead he made a jack-o'-lantern. To me that is still a Halloween feature. The scripture associated with each page does not make up for the fact that it's still a Halloween book.

May 09, Amy rated it really liked it Shelves: Picture book, religious A wonderful, non-scary tale about Halloween that children can enjoy hearing and looking at. It is religious so it may not be appropriate for all settings, but has a wonderful message. I love this book as well as The Pine Tree Parable by the same author. I think this is a good book for young children and can be enjoyed whether you are religious or not.
